YOUTHANASIA

Not a call for a suicide pact amongst our younger generation, more of a call to able arms to support a cause, fight for a choice, lay plans for a worse case scenario that could help your family and sign a petition or two.

The assisted dying debate is long running and far reaching yet the majority of supporters are middle aged and middle class. Not that there's owt wrong with that, indeed it is this demographic that has fostered the momentum that currently exists. However there is one problem on the horizon that one group can fix alone, it's not the Daily fucking Mail, it's the Tories. When Labour loses the next election many of the progressive views and lines in the sand will be washed away. Guess what? 100% of all people die and that includes you, your Mum and your lover, your kids. It's time we started facing up to immortality with a wise head on young shoulders and a smile on our faces. If we can wear steel toe-caps and kick the Mail and the Tories into a u-turn at the same time: big respect!

My ole man was ill for a long time and assisted suicide was never on the menu because his ailments pail in comparison to those who actually make the trip to Switzerland or take matters into their own hands here. Degenerative bastard diseases are cruel way beyond disbelief and a belief in a Devine faith often slows progression down in the country I am privileged to call home.

I became a member of Dignity in Dying, the magnanimous organization that tirelessly campaigns for a change in UK law to allow terminally ill, mentally competent adults the option of an assisted death. I have been in discussion with them about ways to help progress a mandate that each and every one of us may need to take advantage of, sod-forbid that we do, but it'd be nice to know that we actually had a legal right to choose what happens with our own life or that our remaining loved ones wouldn't go to jail for helping us kick our own bucket. Thanks to Emily and Sarah at Dignity in Dying I had the pleasure of meeting the gregarious and robust Debbie Purdy who can lay claim to having beaten the government in the House of Lords on this issue. Debbie has MS and currently is seeking clarification on the grey and the blind-eye turning so we all know where we stand. May we have a round of applause for someone with big kahunas por favor.

Knock-knock folks, there's no hell in the afterlife. Our body is not a gift from a higher god made in his image and not to be fucked with. Our folks made us, glorious nature made that possible, nurture made it grow and natures destructive genes can truly deliver us to a hell on earth.
